The Promise of Spring

January is ending which means Spring is right around the corner.   Winter is acceptable, but I prefer the warmth and freshness of the new season with its longer days and emerging color.  These fresh arrangements provide inspiration for our designs in the store and I can't wait to get started!

Welcome to the Year of the Dragon!

Today is the beginning of the Chinese New Year and according to Chinese astrology, this is the year of the Dragon, one of twelve symbols of the Chinese zodiac.  If you are born under the sign of the Dragon, you might be strong, passionate, intellectual and self-assured.  The Year of the Dragon, typically associated with new beginnings and good fortune is filled with expectations of success and happiness.  I think we can all look forward to a year with such a positive outlook!

Inspiration On My Kitchen Bookshelf

Most people who know me, know I read cookbooks like others might read a novel.  I love to cook and my kitchen experiments are inspired by many more talented than I.  My kitchen library is full of inspiration including every book from The Barefoot Contessa, whose recipes were the mainstay of my endeavors last weekend, to The Silver Palate, which I have used forever.

This week I am adding this book to my reading list and hope to try at least one or more of Sophie Dahl's mouthwatering recipes, starting with  the sea bass in tarragon and wild mushroom sauce.  Beautifully photographed and filled with personal anecdotes, I can't wait to get started.

Dreaming of Green

Although my garden-path-to-be is covered with snow this morning I am seeking inspiration for our garden, which is in need of a makeover this Spring.  I want to incorporate moss and grassy areas between stepping stones to create an inviting outdoor space.

I love this.

There is Nothing Like a Real Book!

This is so clever and makes me smile each time I see it.  There is nothing like reading and holding a real book, at home, on vacation or at work.

You will see more posts about favorite books each week and we are offering a unique selection of design and cookbooks books at Perennial Designs this year. When you are in the neighborhood, please stop by the store and peruse our bookshelves (and all the other shelves!). Follow Me on Pinterest

Wow Color to Warm a Winter Day

Tangerine Tango proclaimed by color authority, Pantone, as the official color of 2012,
is sure to warm and energize the mood of this dreary New England winter day.   This vibrant color will dance its way into everything from our wardrobes to our living areas and I can't wait to try it on!

I love this spirited color which can be used with confidence when added as a subtle accent or more boldly on the walls of a room.

On the Bookshelf this Week

This week I am inspired by Jane Packer's, Color.  I love the sophistication of the many spectrums of white and the warmth of yellow on a chilly winter day. The stunning floral displays in this book are pure inspiration for future projects.  I can't wait to get started! Follow Me on Pinterest

Wanderlust

I spent part of the long weekend lusting over places near and far as seen in this National Geographic book, 500 Drives of A Lifetime.  There is no shortage of interesting places to visit and I want to do more than just read about them.  The last year, with its many ups and downs, has taught me to stop dreaming and make plans. So,  2012 is the year I will venture outside the usual day-to-day and discover some new places.

I might try this clever tree house hotel near Seattle or any of the others found here posted by Garden Design.   Here's to a New Year filled with with new adventures!

Monday Musings

Last January I posted my yearning for a new home office space.  One year later, I've finally settled on a plan to paint the rustic wood of my third floor room with a subtle white wash. With inspiration from these rooms I can start my reno this month. Stay tuned for before/after photos!
